Safety

Safety of the players will always be the highest priority for any World Series of Lacrosse event. We have developed formal programs and guidelines to assist Parents and Coaches on ways to ensure that the players have a safe playing environment. This material is available to parents and coaches of any WSoL player or team upon request.

It is important to understand that sport of lacrosse is an athletic endeavor and, when played properly, includes a high level of athleticism and a moderate level of contact. The sport does have inherent physical risks involved. When an accident or injury does occur, the WSoL safety programs include steps to take whether the incident happens

     a) on or off the field,
     b) before, during or after a game, and
     c) during practices.

Email us at info@worldseriesoflacrosse.org or call National Headquarters at 781.762.6600 and ask for the WSoL Safety and Risk Management Publications.

Injury Prevention

Our programs also address ways to prevent injuries or accidents. Some of the basics are listed below:

  • Inspect players equipment to insure conformance - check goalie equipment
  • Inspect playing fields before games and practices. Check field conditions for things such as excess mud and other possible hazards such as holes, rocks or broken glass, football goal posts or soccer goals and anything else that may cause injury or interference for players.
  • Provide time for players to warm up and stretch before practices and games.
  • Keep your player hydrated - have them drink plenty of the proper fluids before and during practices and games. Always have liquids available at practice and during games
  • Learn the signs of heat exhaustion and concussions

Sportsmanship

One of the cornerstones of the sport of lacrosse is sportsmanship. You will hear us constantly reminding players, coaches and spectators to respect the game. We provide sportsmanship training and materials to all teams involved in the World Series of Lacrosse events.

Learn the Game

We are in the process of putting together a World Class training team to provide training to all of our members based on their role in sport. This program will roll out formally in the Spring of 2012.

Volunteer

As with any youth sport, here are many ways to get involved in youth lacrosse on a volunteer basis. Most youth coaches are volunteers. The sport also needs adults to step up and serve as team parents, program administrators, and on and on. Many members of the World Series of Lacrosse are volunteers as well (including the President) and we have many opportunities to serve the sport around the country if you are interested. Contact WSoL headquarters if you would like to volunteer to serve on our staff.
