Spotlight Program
The purpose of the Spotlight Program is to provide special recognition to those individuals (Boys and Girls) who bring a positive light to the game of lacrosse in ways that transcend what the player has done athletically or statistically on the field. We all admire the winning teams, the prolific and slick goal scorers, and the feats of physicality and athleticism that just make our jaws drop. However, WSoL believes that lacrosse players can inspire us in many other ways, inspire the young and the old, the men and the women, their teammates and their competition. These special players inspire us to say “hey, what a great person”, not just “what a great lacrosse player”. So, if you know someone who meets these qualities, we want to hear from you. To help you in determining if you or someone you know qualifies for such recognition, we have provided a brief summary of WSoL’s Spotlight areas of consideration below:
Sportsmanship:
Definition: 1.) The fact or practice of participating in sports or a sport. 2.) Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.
WSOL Philosophy: Should sportsmanship be more important than winning? WSoL’s message “It’s not whether you win or lose, it is how you play the game, respect the game and respect your opponent.”
Scholarship:
Definition: 1.The methods, discipline, and attainments of a scholar or scholars. 2. Knowledge resulting from study and research in a particular field. 3. A grant of financial aid awarded to a student, as for the purpose of attending a college.
WSOL Philosophy: How does the discipline of the game transcend to the classroom? WSoL believes education is important; grades are important. What are you learning? How are you doing? And what are you doing with this new found knowledge? Life is more than just the lacrosse field.
Citizenship/Community:
Definition: A group of people living and interacting with one another in a particular environment.
WSOL Philosophy: WSoL encourages lacrosse members to exhibit a strong sense of community and understand the importance of exhibiting appropriate social behaviors that reflect kindness and tolerance to our fellow community members.
If you are here on WSoL’s site, we already know that you love the sport of lacrosse. We want to know and Spotlight those in the lacrosse community who exhibit commendable acts of sportsmanship, excel in academic endeavors, and are engaging in community activities that inspire members of the lacrosse community. We want to have you nominate them as one of our monthly Spotlight candidates.

Volunteer Recognition Program
Each month, we will recognize the Volunteer who has gone beyond expectations in helping to advance the efforts of the World Series of Lacrosse. In June, the Recognition committee will select the WSOL Volunteer of the Year from the monthly winners. The Volunteer of the Year and the monthly winners will be recognized at the National Championship Event.
